When A Pro Soccer Academy Player Faces Madrid’s Best

When Ricardo, one of our players at Madrid Euro Soccer Academy, faced the youth teams of Spanish giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, it was the ultimate test of his skills and determination. 

As part of MESA’s Integration Program, Ricardo plays for a top Spanish club while continuing his training with our pro soccer academy. This initiative aims to give him firsthand experience of elite Spanish competition. This program sets MESA apart by providing holistic player development: sharpening technical skills while also fostering language learning and full cultural immersion.

Ricardo plays for the youth team of Rayo Majadahonda, which boasts alumni like Rodri, Théo Hernandez, and Marcos Llorente. When asked about his opportunity to play against Spain’s best, Ricardo shared: “When you step onto the field, you feel a lot of pressure and a lot of excitement. Playing against them is a great experience because you play against one of the best teams in the world, and you can only get better by playing them.”

Taking full advantage of our location as a Spanish soccer academy in Madrid, we aim to expose our players to intense, fast, and physical football. “The playing style is different compared to teams in the United States. I feel like in Spain, the teams like Real Madrid play much faster with more intensity,” Ricardo remarked about the game. 

However, he would not let himself get outmatched. “Ricardo had a good impact with the ball for his team, asking for the ball and not hiding, trying to connect with his teammates and create options for the attackers,” said coach Sebastian Guerrero after the game.

Ricardo added: “Playing against Real Madrid and Atletico really pushed me to improve because as I saw them play I thought, ‘I still have a long way to go to get to that level’”. At MESA, we strive for the gradual improvement of our players over time as they continue to rise to the intensity that the matches demand of them.

We believe the most important thing about our Integration program is that it provides our players with a window into the world of high-stakes football. As MESA players experience the standards, intensity, and demands of elite competition, they see how much further they can strive to improve, inspiring them to elevate their ambitions and their work ethic. 

As Ricardo said himself: “The biggest lesson I took away from these experiences was to keep working hard and to keep going so that I can get to their level and if not, go even higher.”
